Sunday vs Toast pay at table
If you run Toast, its own QR pay at table and Mobile Order & Pay come with the core POS subscription, with no extra feature fee. Sunday is an add-on at $199 or $299 a month that plugs into Toast, Clover, Lightspeed, NCR and Micros, and adds bill splitting by item, suggested tips and review prompts. Start with Toast's built-in version; add Sunday if you want those extras or run more than one POS.
Two ways to pay at the table
Pay the bill on your phone. The guest eats, scans a code on the table or receipt, sees the check and pays. Staff never carry a card machine. Sunday is built around this, and Toast does it with a QR code printed on the receipt.
Order and pay on your phone. The guest orders from the table and the kitchen gets the ticket straight away. Toast calls this Mobile Order & Pay. It can run as a tab (order rounds, pay at the end) or pay-as-you-go (pay each time you order). Sunday's Standard plan also lists ordering.

Ask us
We set up table ordering where every order is paid before it cooks, in seven menu languages.
What changes when guests pay on their phone
Tips can drop. At our proof restaurant, fewer dine-in guests tipped after we moved to pay-first ordering. We now size the tip buttons to the bill. Sunday sells suggested tips for the same reason.
Card-not-present rates. Toast processes phone payments at your keyed rate, which is usually higher than a tapped card. Check your merchant agreement before you switch every table.
Staff still matter. Someone has to explain the code to the first guests each night and handle a failed card. Plan a one-line staff script.
Where both beat us, and where AZ is different
Where Toast and Sunday are stronger
- Toast is built into the POS: the fewest moving parts if you are on Toast.
- Sunday has run pay at table in thousands of restaurants. Ours is proven in one, our own.
- Both are self-serve products. We start with a conversation and set it up with you.
What AZ does differently
- Every order paid before it cooks. No walk-outs and no unpaid tickets.
- The menu in the guest's language: Urdu, Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Arabic or Spanish. The kitchen ticket stays in English.
- One connected system. The same menu and sold-out list run the table, the phone and the website.
- Built on Clover, which many pay-at-table products skip.

Does paying at the table hurt tips?
It can. We saw fewer dine-in guests tip after moving to pay-first at our own restaurant, and fixed it partly by sizing tip buttons to the bill.
