Done-for-you vs software, consultants and hiring
The question is not which app. It is who does the work. Software needs someone with hours to run it. A consultant leaves a plan. A manager covers one shift. AZ works inside your restaurant and sets up, connects and runs the phone, tables, ordering and marketing with your staff, and uses other vendors' tools when they fit.

| Who does the work | What is covered | Published cost | Commitment | Ends with | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AZ (forward-deployed engineer) | We do, inside your restaurant, with your staff | Phone, tables, online ordering, marketing, money and owner reporting as one connected system; custom builds where nothing fits | No price list. Quoted per job | Month-to-month | You keep everything built |

"Unverified" means the vendor's own pricing page did not load for us in October 2026 and the figure comes from a third party.
Where they beat us, and where we are different
Where the alternatives are stronger
- Owner.com publishes its price, starts fast and has 24/7 support from a large team.
- Software is cheaper if you or a manager have the hours to set it up and run it well.
- A good manager handles people problems that no system will.
- We are a small team proven in one restaurant, our own. A large vendor has thousands of reference customers.
What AZ does differently
- Outcome first. We start from what is costing you money or hours and pick the fix: an existing tool, a change to how staff work, or a build.
- One connected system across departments. The phone, the tables, the website, the kitchen printer, the texts and your dashboard share one menu and one guest list.
- Your guests' languages. Menus in Urdu, Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Arabic and Spanish; the phone host greets in Urdu, Hindi and Spanish.
- No vendor commissions. If Owner.com or Toast is the right answer for a job, we set it up and say so.
- An honest ramp. New systems run alongside your staff first. The phone host takes about three months before it carries nearly all calls.

Questions owners ask
Should a small restaurant buy software, hire a consultant or hire a manager?
Buy software when you have someone with time to set it up and run it. Hire a consultant when you want a plan and will do the work yourself. Hire a manager when the gap is people on the floor. A done-for-you partner fits when you want the tools set up, connected and run with your staff, without adding headcount.
Is Owner.com done-for-you?
Partly. Owner.com's pricing page says it handles your entire switch with a dedicated specialist and offers 24/7 support. After that it is a managed product. Its CEO says on the same page that partnering with Owner means giving up some control over how your digital presence looks.
How much does a restaurant consultant cost?
One industry blog puts on-site restaurant consulting at $40 to $120 an hour or $250 to $1,000 a day, plus retainers or project fees. We found no reputable dated survey for restaurant technology consultants specifically.
What does a restaurant manager cost in Houston?
Indeed's Houston average for restaurant managers is about $60,151 a year, before payroll taxes. The federal wage survey (BLS, May 2022) puts Houston food service managers at a mean of $71,720 a year. Servers in Houston averaged $13.02 an hour in that survey, before tips.
How is AZ different from Owner.com or Popmenu?
They sell a product with onboarding. We work inside your restaurant: phone, tables, ordering, marketing and money as one connected system, built around how you already work. If one of their products is the right fit for a job, we set it up for you and take no commission.
What does AZ cost?
We do not publish a price list. We quote the jobs you want replaced before any work starts, month-to-month, and you keep everything we build.
Tell us what is hurting. We show you it working on your menu.
Same-day reply. No vendor commissions, so we recommend whatever fits, including a tool on this page that is not ours.
