TikTok Must Eat: what it means for independent restaurants
TikTok launched Must Eat in late October 2026, a dining guide inside the app built from more than 40 million posts, reviews and comments. It covers New York City, Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area for now. Restaurants cannot pay to be featured, and TikTok says independents get priority (Nation's Restaurant News, Oct 28, 2026, checked Nov 2026).
We found no form for applying. Your way in is real guests posting real videos that name your restaurant. Outside those three areas, spend one hour a week on it and keep your Google profile first.

Both are free lists you cannot buy your way onto. They reward different things, and they reach guests at different moments.

Should you care if you are not in those cities?
Yes, lightly. The guide is new, so its reach is unknown, and we could not find any data on bookings or visits it has produced. Douyin, TikTok's sister app in China, launched a restaurant guide in 2023 and later added food ordering in the app (Social Media Today). That shows a possible direction, and TikTok has announced nothing like it for the US.
Keep the order of work straight. At our proof restaurant, the Google profile drew 76,079 views in six months, which makes it the front door. Fix Google, reviews and your hours and menu first. TikTok comes after that.
Six steps that cost time, not ad money
- Search your own name on TikTok.Search your restaurant, your dish names and your neighborhood. Note who already posts about you and which dishes they film.
- Set up a business account with your real address.Use the same name and address as your Google profile, so guests and TikTok can match the place.
- Tag the location on everything you post.TikTok shows Must Eat through location tags and place pages. A video tied to your place can lead a guest to you.
- Make one dish easy to film.A pull, a pour, a sizzle at the table. Guests post what looks good on a phone. Staff should be fine being on camera, and ask them first.
- Ask guests, and invite local creators.Put a small line on the bag or table: tag us when you post. Offering a local creator a meal should come with a clear disclosure on their post. Reply to comments, since TikTok says comments feed the guide.
- Count it.Add "how did you find us?" at checkout or on the phone. If nobody says TikTok after 60 days, cut it back. Our tracking guide shows how.

Google, reviews, AI answers and social all draw from the same facts about your restaurant. AZ keeps those facts right and connects them to ordering you own. A guest who finds you on any of them can order direct, and you keep the name and number.
