How to keep your restaurant hours and menu accurate on Google and AI assistants
Keep one master copy of your hours and menu in your point of sale, then make Google, your website and every app match it. Set regular and special hours on your Google Business Profile, fill in the menu editor, and test what AI assistants say about you once a month. 80% of surveyed diners use Google to find restaurants and 27% use AI tools (Popmenu survey, Oct 13, 2026, checked Oct 2026).
The routine below takes about two hours the first time and 20 minutes a month after that.
Wrong hours cost you the guest before they ever call
80% of surveyed diners use Google or another search engine to find restaurants, and 27% use AI tools such as ChatGPT (Popmenu survey via Restaurant Technology News, Oct 13, 2026). Both read the same facts about you: hours, address, phone, menu.
When those facts disagree across places, the guest drives to a closed door or orders a dish you stopped selling. They do not blame Google. They blame you. On Oct 8, 2026 Deliverect and Yext announced a link that pushes menu, opening hours, item availability and allergen data from the ordering system to search engines, maps and AI assistants (Restaurant Technology News). The companies did not give a price or a rollout date. You can get most of the benefit by hand with the routine below.
Nine steps, about two hours the first time
- List every place your hours and menu live.Google Business Profile, your website, your online ordering page, delivery apps, Apple Maps, Yelp, Facebook, your phone greeting, printed menus. Write it in one sheet.
- Choose one master copy.Your point of sale or ordering system is the best master because it knows what is truly available. Everything else follows it.
- Set regular hours on Google.Sign in at business.google.com, choose Edit profile, set hours, then Save. Google reviews edits before they go live, and you can follow progress in "Check your edit status" (Google Business Profile Help).
- Add special hours for every holiday, even if hours do not change.Google says special hours work for temporary changes of up to six days in a row and recommends confirming official holidays even when they match your regular hours (Google Business Profile Help). For a longer closure, mark the business temporarily closed.
- Fill in the Google menu editor.Menu items appear under "Menu" on your profile and can be grouped in sections. Google says changes can take 24 to 48 hours to show (Google Business Profile Help). If a third-party provider feeds your menu, the editor may not be available.
- Match the same menu names and prices everywhere. If the website says "Chicken Tikka" and the app says "Tikka Chicken", AI assistants may treat them as two dishes. Pick one name.
- State allergens and dietary tags in plain words.Halal, vegetarian, contains nuts. Guests and AI assistants ask about them. Only publish what your kitchen can stand behind.
- Turn off sold-out items the same day.If your ordering system has an 86 switch, use it, and check that the website and apps follow.
- Put a monthly check in your calendar.Look at your profile on a phone, search your name in Google and in an AI assistant, and fix anything wrong.
Common mismatches and the fix
| Where it goes wrong | Why it happens | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Holiday hours still show regular hours | Nobody added special hours | Add special hours 2 weeks ahead, every holiday |
| Phone number differs between Google and website | An old line was never retired | Use one number everywhere; update the phone greeting too |
| Delivery app shows a dish you stopped selling | Menu edited in one place only | Make the POS the master; check apps weekly |
| AI assistant quotes an old price | It read an old page or a cached copy | Update the website first, then re-check after a few days |
| Closed on Google, open in real life | Temporary closure was never reversed | Check the status after any closure |

How to see what AI assistants say about you
Ask three questions in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google: "Is [your restaurant] open now?", "What time does [your restaurant] close on Sunday?" and "Does [your restaurant] have vegetarian options?" Write down what each says and where it seems to have read it. If an answer is wrong, find the source page and correct it. Our guide on getting recommended by AI covers the next layer, and getting on Google Maps and local SEO for restaurants cover the basics. Reviews feed the same profile, so add getting more reviews to the monthly check.
Do you need a sync tool? A restaurant with one location and a stable menu usually does not. A multi-location group with menus that change by store may. Ask any vendor for the price and the list of places it updates before you sign.
The profile is the front door, so we watch it every day
AZ is a forward-deployed technology partner. For our proof restaurant in Houston we watch the Google profile, the website and the ordering menu as one connected system, so a change in the kitchen reaches every place the same day.
Google profile views over six months. The profile, not the website, is the front door.

Questions owners ask
How do I change my restaurant hours on Google?
Sign in to the Google account linked to your Business Profile, go to business.google.com, choose Edit profile, change the hours and Save. Google reviews edits before they go live, and you can check the status in your profile.
How do I set holiday hours on Google?
Use Special hours in the Hours section. Google says special hours work for temporary changes of up to six days in a row, and recommends confirming official holidays even when your hours do not change.
How long does a menu update take to show on Google?
Google says changes made in the menu editor can take 24 to 48 hours to appear on Maps and Search. If a third-party provider supplies your menu, the editor may not be available.
Why does ChatGPT show wrong hours for my restaurant?
AI assistants read public pages such as your Google profile and website. If those disagree or are out of date, the answer can be wrong. Fix the source pages first, then check again after a few days.
Do I need a tool that syncs my menu everywhere?
A single location with a stable menu usually does not. Multi-location groups with changing menus may. Deliverect and Yext announced such a link on Oct 8, 2026 without a price, so ask any vendor for cost and the list of places it updates.
