Can customers order from your restaurant in ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes, if you are on Square. Since July 1, 2026, US Square restaurants with Square Online Ordering are listed in ChatGPT and Claude automatically, and Square says it charges no extra marketplace commission on those orders (Square press release, checked Oct 2026).
DoorDash opened a beta on September 30, 2026 that lets companies' AI tools place office food orders through DoorDash (DoorDash newsroom, checked Oct 2026). Everyone else should make sure AI assistants can find the restaurant, read the menu and send guests to an order link the restaurant owns.

What this means for an independent restaurant
- A new place where guests start. People already ask ChatGPT "where should I get Thai food tonight." Some assistants can now finish the order too, without a guest ever opening a delivery app.
- Square restaurants are in by default. Check your Square Dashboard to see how your listing looks. Square says reporting shows the order source, so you can see whether these orders are real.
- Office lunch is going through AI first. DoorDash's connector starts with companies ordering for staff. If you want office orders, your menu has to be easy for an AI tool to read and order from.

Five steps for any POS
- Check what your system already offers.On Square, open the Dashboard and review your AI listing. On Clover or Toast, ask your rep whether ordering in AI assistants is planned and on what fees.
- Publish a menu a machine can read.Real text with dish names, short descriptions and prices on your own website. A photo or PDF of the menu is hard for assistants to read.
- Keep hours, phone and address identical everywhere.Your website, Google profile and ordering page should agree. Assistants trust facts that match across sources.
- Own one order link.Make sure there is a commission-free page where an assistant, or a guest, can order and pay. See commission-free online ordering compared.
- Ask the assistants yourself, monthly.Ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity for your cuisine near you. Note whether you are named and whether the answer is right. Fix what is wrong at the source.

Can people order food through ChatGPT?
Yes, from some restaurants. Since July 1, 2026, US Square restaurants with active Square Online Ordering can be found and ordered from inside ChatGPT and Claude, paid with Order by Cash App. The order goes straight into the restaurant's Square POS and kitchen screen.
Does Square charge restaurants for ChatGPT or Claude orders?
Square's July 1, 2026 release says there is no additional work, setup or fee, and no added marketplace commission on orders placed through these integrations. Card processing on your existing Square plan is a separate question to check in your Square account.
